Random question/survey (again)
OK, remember about a year ago I floated the idea of getting a tattoo for my 30th birthday? Most of you were pretty receptive to the idea and had some hilaroius suggestions as to what I should get. In the year since, I think I'm chickening out. I'm a HUGE baby about pain and don't know if I could handle it. Plus I can't really decide on a discrete place to put it.
F has suggested I go another route and get a piercing - a belly button ring. In theory it'd be just the initial pain I would have to worry about (plus the healing). Also, it's some what more reversible should I not want it any more.
Am I too old for this kind of piercing? I dunno. I kind of have it in my head that teenagers get this kind of thing. Is that too closed-minded? Am I being lame?
Help me out, here.

DO IT! I love mine. I got it the night before Match Day the first time around (when I matched in OB) and I haven't regretted it for a minute. Mine's in the traditional tramp stamp location, and I love it. I so want another but I can't figure out what I want or where.
He. You should get a chicken, ya big chicken. Or perhaps a pork chop. Or a slice of turkey bacon!
You're not too old for a belly ring. Know that it'll have to come out if you plan on having kids any time in the near future (not saying you are, or should, just, I've delivered a lot of babies from beneath stretched-out belly ring punctures. They stop being stretched out after you deliver, but the hole's gone). Be diligent about cleaning yours, though - everyone's gets infected in the beginning.
Don't be such a BIG BABY!! LOL If I could do it twice (*once over scar tissue from the first tattoo) you can! I'm not going to lie to you and say that it doesn't hurt (because it does) - but it isn't terrible.
As for the belly-button ring - I think that's great too! The twins have ruined my stomach forever unfortunately or I'd go with you. I say go for it...ya know, if you insist on being a wuss. ;)
I'm always up for someone getting a piercing. :) I agree with dk, they always get a tad infected in the beginning, so clean well. But with re: to a piercing vs. a tattoo, isn't it all just temporary pain? You might find the tattoo is less painful overall, given the potential for that ring to get caught on your jeans... ouch...
Don't.
Hey, I don't know why this came to me, but remember in college you told me you were thinking about getting a tat of a tree with the infinity symbol in its roots? I've always liked the symbolism of that. Just a thought about the "what"...
You are NOT too old for piercings or tattoos.
Go for it.
I have two tats. One small yellow rose on my right wrist (my 30th bday pres to myself) and a morning glory at my lower back (celebration of my divorce lol)
As someone who has both, and who is also a huge wussy, I will tell you that the piercing was much much much easier than the tattoo. However, you've heard the train wreck that my tattoo was, so it's up to you to decide who's the bigger wimp - you or me?
The answer is: my wife.
When the question is "who's the bigger wussy?" that answer is always "my wife."
